As of today (Sept. 1), children ages 12 and under can ride ride BC Transit buses in Kamloops and elsewhere in B.C. for free.

Anyone who typically buys fares or monthly bus passes for children 12 and under will no longer need to do so. A family that buys their child a $35 monthly transit pass for a year will save $420.

It is estimated that approximately 370,000 children ages 12 and under throughout B.C. will be eligible to ride for free when the program is launched.

Environment Minister George Heyman said the hope is the initiative will create lifelong transit riders and build better, more inclusive and sustainable communities.
