Suspect arrested in fire hall burglary in Kamloops

A man is facing several charges following a burglary at a Kamloops Fire Rescue fire hall.

Kamloops RCMP Const. Crystal Evelyn said officers were called to fire hall No. 6 at 5300 Dallas Dr. on Wednesday (Jan. 12) morning.

An overnight burglary led to the theft of several radios and chargers, a forward-looking infrared camera and firefighting gear.

“As part of the investigation, police identified and arrested a suspect shortly after at a nearby residence,” Evelyn said, noting the stolen property was recovered and returned to the fire department.

Evelyn said the same suspect had also been identified in an uttering threats investigation reported at 1:15 a.m. the same day.

While in custody in connection with the burglary, the man was also arrested and charged in connection wth the uttering threats incident.

Shane Lee McLeod, 21, of Kamloops is charged with break and enter and theft, theft over $5,000 and possession of stolen property in relation to the fire hall investigation. He is also charged uttering threats.

McLeod remains in custody and is to appear in court on Thursday.
