A COVID-19 outbreak began at Brocklehurst Gemstone Care Home on Jan. 13, 2021. It was declared over on March 12, 2021.

A third person at Brocklehurst Gemstone Care Centre has died as a result of an ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, Kamloops This Week has learned.

The outbreak was declared at the facility on Jan. 13, beginning with four cases.

As of Wednesday, the facility had seen 23 cases, including 16 residents and seven staff.

Interior Health could not confirm the death on Wednesday, but said its reporting process, which involves notifying family and the province, means that there may be delays in the release of information.

"We provide official numbers that come from our epidemiology team each morning. If there was a third death, it will be reported publicly, but not on the day it occurs," an Interior Health spokesperson told KTW via email.

The facility is operated by Trellis Senior Services and has 125 publicly funded beds and five private beds. It is one of six care homes in the Interior Health region with an ongoing outbreak.
