Stopping a vehicle for expired insurance in Kamloops on Wednesday night (Sept. 22) led to the seizure of more than 200 grams of drugs.

Kamloops RCMP Const. Crystal Evelyn said an officer stopped the vehicle at about 10:45 p.m. near Columbia Street and Highway 1. While police were dealing with the driver, Evelyn said, weapons were seen inside the car, resulting in the detention of its occupants.

“Further investigation revealed what appeared to be a ‘kidnapping kit,’ which included a ball gag, zap straps and duct tape, weapons, cash and numerous quantities of suspected heroin, cocaine, crack cocaine, and methamphetamine,” Evelyn said.

The items were seized by police.

Evelyn said those involved were released pending the investigation’s conclusion. The driver also received a violation ticket for driving without insurance and the vehicle was towed.

Anybody with information related to the investigation is asked to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
