A woman was arrested after police in Kamloops stopped an impaired driver early Wednesday morning (Sept. 8) and discovered inside the vehicle a passenger with a loaded firearm, drugs and cash.

Const. Crystal Evelyn said at 2:54 a.m., an officer was making patrols when he noted an SUV committing traffic violations, which included speeding.

Evelyn said police stopped the vehicle at Eighth Avenue and Seymour Street downtown, noting the driver failed roadside breath tests and received a 90-day driving prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impound under the Motor Vehicle Act.

“While the passenger, a woman, was preparing to leave the vehicle, police observed a large amount of cash, as well as weapons, ammunition and paraphernalia associated to the illegal drug trade,” Evelyn said.

“The woman was arrested. A loaded firearm and suspected drugs were also seized as part of the investigation.”

As of 11 a.m. on Wednesday, the woman remained in custody as part of the ongoing investigation.

Charges are pending.
