Arrest of assault suspect leads to injuries to three Kamloops Mounties

The injuries took place while officers were arresting a man alleged to have assaulted and sexually assaulted a woman before leading police on a chase from Sahali to North Kamloops.

Three Kamloops Mounties were injured while apprehending a suspect in a violent assault on Wednesday.

The injuries took place while officers were arresting a man alleged to have assaulted and sexually assaulted a woman before leading police on a chase from Sahali to North Kamloops.

According to an RCMP press release, one officer was injured in a motor-vehicle crash after the suspect’s vehicle side-swiped an RCMP cruiser, while a second officer sustained an arm injury while taking evasive action to avoid being struck by the vehicle. The release says a third officer suffered an arm injury while arresting the suspect.

“Each and every day, first responders leave their loved ones at home to risk their lives on the front lines as they do their part to contribute to public safety in the communities they serve,” said Chief Supt. Brad Haugli, head of the RCMP’s Southeast District in B.C.

Two Salmon Arm RCMP officers were injured in an altercation with a suspect int he Shuswap city on Wednesday, as well, including one whose arm was broken.

The name of the suspect in the Kamloops incidents has not been made public.
