B.C. reports 841 cases of COVID-19, five further deaths

There were 74 new cases reported in the Interior Health region over the past 24 hours

B.C. health officials are reporting 841 new cases of COVID-19 and five further deaths linked to the disease over the past 24 hours.

Of the new cases, 74 were in residents of the Interior Health region.

Elsewhere, there were 171 new cases in Vancouver Coastal Health, 541 in Fraser Health, 35 in Island Health and 20 in Northern Health.

Hospitalization numbers remain elevated, up to 515 in hospital on Wednesday with 171 of those patients requiring critical care. Both are record figures.

The province now has 8,009 active cases with another 11,657 isolating and being monitored by public health due to exposure to known cases.

Of the province's 127,889 total cases, 118,057 have recovered while 1,576 have died.

On the vaccine front, B.C. has now given 1,705,409 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. Of those, 89,725 are second doses.

The province is currently booking vaccine appointments for those age 59 and older under its age-based program, with booking opening up for those 58 and older after midnight Wednesday.
