B.C. health officials are reporting 625 new cases of COVID-19 and eight further deaths due to the disease over the past 24 hours.
Of those cases, 71 are in the Interior Health region, continuing the recent trends of high case counts in the region.
Interior Health now has 785 active cases with 33 people in hospital and nine of those patients in critical care.
Of the eight deaths reported Wednesday, one was in the Interior Health region — a resident at the Heritage Square long-term care home in Vernon.
The province now has 6,343 active cases, down considerably from the 10,000-plus-case peak seen in December.
Elsewhere in the province, there were 178 new cases in Vancouver Coastal Health, 305 in Fraser Health, 28 in Vancouver Island Health and 43 in Northern Health.
Of B.C.'s 55,254 total cases to date, 46,728 have recovered and 962 have died.
Another 8,719 people are under active public health monitoring due to exposure to confirmed cases.
On the vaccine front, a total of 33,665 people have received a dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, up 5,456 since Tuesday.
