As the 75th anniversary of D-Day approaches, the Royal Canadian Legion and the Army Navy Air Force Veterans Club are seeking D-Day veterans who may be in the Kamloops region to join a ceremony marking the milestone date.
The 75th anniversary of the Allied invasion of the French coast, an operation that turned the tide of the Second World War, occurred on June 6, 1944.
A ceremony will be held on Thursday, June 6, at 11 a.m. at the Battle Street Cenotaph downtown.
If you know of a D-Day vet in the Kamloops area, organizers would like to know about them, to give them a special invitation to attend the event. Families of D-Day veterans are also encouraged to attend to mark the milestone anniversary.
The Legion and the ANAVETS will offer transportation to and from the event if needed.
To advise us of any D-Day veterans, or for more information, contact Craig Thomson at the Legion at 250-374-1742.
The June 6 ceremony is open to the public. Following the ceremony, veterans, their families and the public are welcome to attend a reception at the Royal Canadian Legion, downtown at 425 Lansdowne St.
