Campfires remain allowed as BC Wildfire Service announces fire bans

With the return of hot weather, the BC Wildfire Service will soon prohibit Category 2 and Category 3 open fires within the Kamloops Fire Centre.

Campfires will remain allowed within the regulations, which include a maximum size of 0.5 metres high by 0.5 metres wide.

The prohibitions also include fireworks, sky lanterns, binary exploding targets and burn barrels and burn cages of any size except when used for a campfire within the regulations.

The forecast from Environment Canada calls for hot and sunny weather beginning on Saturday, with temperatures reaching up to 36 C by Monday.

The prohibitions apply to all public and private land, barring local government bylaws, and will come into effect on July 29, remaining in effect until Oct. 15 or until rescinded.
