Contact tracing underway in Chase area after confirmed COVID-19 case in Little Shuswap Band

A lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 has been identified in the Little Shuswap Indian Band community near Chase.

“There is no need to panic,” stated a press release from the band’s Skwlax Wellness Centre.

According to the release, the band’s emergency operations centre has been activated and is working with Interior Health and the First Nations Health Authority to address the outbreak.

Tracing of the infected individual’s contacts is underway and some community members are being tested for COVID-19 or monitored for its symptoms.

Anyone who may have been in contact with the infected individual will be informed via public health they may have been exposed.

Those with symptoms may be sent for testing, but those who are asymptomatic will be told to self isolate.

People are encouraged to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 such as fever, cough, difficulty breathing, and loss of the sense of smell or taste.

Testing is available at the Chase Health Clinic.
