Coquihalla Highway northbound from Hope closed due to fatal crash

Several vehicles collided on Highway 5 on the morning of Feb. 10.

The Coquihalla Highway’s (Highway 5) northbound lanes remain closed as of noon on Wednesday (Feb. 10) just north of Hope following a fatal collision earlier in the day.

RCMP Cpl. Mike Halskov said one person died and an undetermined number of other people were injured in the 9:40 a.m. multi-vehicle crash about five kilometres north of where Highway 5 and Highway 3 split, just outside of Hope.

“Investigators are in the very early stages of this investigation and information is subject to change; however, it appears at this time that road/weather conditions in that area may be a significant contributing factor to this collision,” Halskov said.

Drivers can check drivebc.ca for updates with respect to the highway closure and detour routes.

Motorists are asked to obey traffic personnel and consider delaying travel plans in the area. Anyone with dash-cam footage is asked to call RCMP Fraser Valley Traffic Services at 604-702-4039.
