COVID-19 case numbers in B.C. spike over weekend

There have been 102 new cases since July 17, with no new deaths reported. A number of the new cases stem from events/parties, such as the ones in Kelowna between June 25 and July 4. There are now in excess of 60 COVID-19 cases linked to gatherings in Kelowna.

UPDATED COVID-19 NUMBERS AS OF MONDAY, JULY 20, 2020

Total number of cases: 3,300
Number of cases since Friday, July 17: 102
• A number of the new cases stem from events/parties, such as the ones in Kelowna between June 25 and July 4. There are now in excess of 60 COVID-19 cases linked to gatherings in Kelowna.

Cases by health region:
• Fraser: 1,713
• Vancouver Coastal: 1,042
• Interior: 280 (45 new cases over the weekend)
• Island: 142
• Northern: 69

Total number of deaths: 189
(No reported deaths over the weekend.)
Median age of those dying from COVID-19: 85

Total recovered: 2,858

Number of active cases: 253
Number of people in hospital: 16
Number of people in intensive-care: 4

Active outbreaks: 3 (one in long-term care and two in hospital acute-care units, affecting 401 residents and 256 residents).

There remains one confirmed case at BC Hydro’s Site C project.

Flights involving airports in Kelowna, Vancouver and Victoria have had passengers with COVID-19. The BC Centre for Disease Control website at bccdc.ca has specific information on flights affected.
