Crash near Westmount elementary has traffic tied up on Westsyde Road

The two-vehicle accident occurred at Westsyde Road and Walkem Road

A two-vehicle crash at the intersection leading to Westmount elementary has traffic tied up on Tuesday morning.

Paramedics and firefighters were called to the corner of Westsyde Road and Walkem Road at about 8:20 a.m. after two vehicles collided in the intersection.

As of 8:50 a.m., both northbound lanes of Westsyde Road were closed, as was one southbound lanes. There are unconfirmed reports that two people were injured, including a child.

The intersection was recently upgraded by the city in an attempt to help alleviate congestion as parents drop and off and pick up their kids at Westmount elementary.

The school is on Walkem, which leads to a cul de sac and has no alternative exit routes.
