Crash on Highway 5A claims life of truck driver

Dave Eagles/KTW The driver of a commercial truck is dead after his rig left Highway 5A south of Kamloops early Tuesday morning and went over a cliff.

Emergency crews were called to Cardu Hill, south of Knutsford, just after 3 a.m. for a report of a single-vehicle accident.

RCMP Sgt. Mike Pears said one person is dead.

"The collision involves a southbound commercial transport truck and trailers hauling lumber," he said.

"The transport truck has gone off the road to the right and over a steep embankment."

Pears said the investigation is ongoing.

The RCMP will be working with the BC Coroners Service and the Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement to determine the cause of the crash.
