Driver leaves truck and eludes Kamloops Mounties

Kamloops Mounties are looking for the driver of a pickup truck who fled from police Thursday afternoon in Sahali in an apparent stolen vehicle.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said an officer attempted to pull over the vehicle for driving erratically on Summit Drive near Columbia Street at approximately 2:30 p.m.

The driver didn’t stop, but the officer did not pursue as other Mounties closed in on the truck in the Summit Shopping Centre, where the driver ditched the vehicle aran away.

“Police officers and the canine unit searched for the driver, but were unable to locate him,” Shelkie said, noting the truck appears to have been stolen.

Police did not have a description of the suspect, other than he was a white male.

The suspect discarded the hat and jacket that he was wearing while driving the truck and witnesses couldn’t supply any other descriptors, Shelkie said.
