East Barriere Lake residents douse wildfire

The fire was caused by a lightning strike

East Barriere Lake residents responded to a fire on Thursday night, about five kilometres down the forestry service road, at 9:30 pm. Residents worked with shovels and a pump until the small blaze was extinguished.

The fire was started by lightning, according to the BC WIldfire Service.

As of June 17, there are 17 active fires burning in the Kamloops Fire Centre and 51 active fires in the province.
