Police plan to scour a stretch of the South Thompson River on Thursday after an angler reeled in a bag of explosives.
According to Mounties, the fisherman was pulling in his anchor near the Lafarge Road bridge just after 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday when he found a plastic bag containing explosives.
“Police attended and learned the angler had placed the bag back into the water just offshore of the boat launch, located at the north end of the bridge,” RCMP Staff Sgt. Sascha Fesenko said in a release.
Fesenko said an RCMP bomb squad and dive team are in the area on Thursday to locate and safely dispose of the explosives.
Until that’s done, Fesenko said, the boat launch and the surrounding area in east Kamloops is closed to the public.
