Fatal crash near Kamloops closes Coquihalla's northbound lanes

A white Toyota Prius collided head-on with a grey Toyota Sienna near the interchange of Highway 5 and Highway 1, south of the city

One person is dead and another person is in hospital following a head-on crash on Friday just south of Kamloops.

Kamloops RCMP Sgt. Thomas Dimopoulos said police were called at about 3:30 p.m. to a report of an accident south of the interchange of Highway 5 and Highway 1, between Kamloops and Inks Lake.

Dimopoulos said a white Toyota Prius collided head-on with a grey Toyota Sienna. The driver and lone occupant of the Toyota Prius was pronounced deceased at the scene and the driver and lone occupant of the Toyota Sienna was treated at the scene and taken to Royal Inland Hospital for further assessment.

As of 5:30 p.m., northbound lanes of the Coquihalla Highway into Kamloops remain closed, with a single lane northbound expected to open soon.

The RCMP and BC Coroners Service are investigating.
