A head-on crash on Highway 1 east of Chase has claimed the life of a person and sent two others to hospital.
Cpl. Mike Halskov of the BC Highway Patrol said it appears a westbound pickup truck travelling in the passing lane entered the single eastbound lane and collided head-on with a large commercial vehicle.
Halskov said Chase Chase RCMP and emergency services responded to the fatal collision on Highway 1 approximately three kilometres east of Chase.
The collision occurred after 1 p.m. on Wednesday (June 16).
The driver of the pickup truck died in the collision. The driver of the commercial vehicle was taken to hospital in serious condition and the passenger sustained minor injuries, said Halskov.
Halskov said police are in the early stages of the investigation and information regarding the collision could change.
Highway 1 is closed in both directions as of Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. and traffic control personnel are on scene, with detours via Highway 97 through Westwold and Falkland and Highway 97B into Salmon Arm.
DriveBC said an update on the highway situation is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
