Highway 1 east of Revelstoke closed due to fatal collision

Highway 1 is closed east of Revelstoke due to fatal collision involving a dump truck and several vehicles.

RCMP said the fatal collision occurred at about 11:30 am. on Highway 1 near Canyon Hot Springs, approximately 33 kilometres east of Revelstoke.

BC RCMP Traffic Services Cpl. Mike Halskov said a commercial dump truck lost control and collided with several other vehicles. The driver of the dump truck was ejected and died as a result of the crash. There are no other reported fatalities and injuries to the other vehicle occupants is not yet clear.

Halskov said the investigation is in its early stages and DriveBC is reporting that Highway 1 is closed in both directions as police investigate. According to information from the scene, it was raining heavily at the time of the collision.

The highway will remain closed for a number of hours. Police are asking motorists to obey the direction of traffic control personnel at the scene and to monitor DriveBC.ca or @DriveBC for updates regarding the highway closure.
