Reports indicate 10 per cent natural gas inside the home’s attic.

RCMP have shut down surrounding streets and four other homes have been evacuated.

An excavation crew is on scene as of 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

Firefighters have asked for one ambulance to be on standby.

Traffic was backed up down Highland Road to the roundabout where Mounties had Qu’Apple Drive west of Highland Road cordoned off to vehicle and foot traffic.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Mathias van Laer said the leak is from a condo construction site and the area has been evacuated as a precaution until the leak can be fixed.

Multiple onlookers could be found in the area, including residents who were unable to get back to their homes for the time being.

"I'm stuck out here, so I'm going to call a friend and see if she's got wine," said Juniper resident Heather Newport.

Fortis BC was spotted on scene just before 6 p.m.
