Interior Health sees largest share of province's new COVID-19 cases over past 24 hours

The Interior Health region accounted for nearly half of all new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours in the province on Tuesday.

B.C. reported 76 new cases of COVID-19, the most since June 22. Of those, 37 were in the Interior Health region.

Interior Health also has the second most active cases, with 207 of B.C.'s 692 total active cases.

In other regions, there were 27 new cases in Fraser Health (182 active), nine in Vancouver Coastal Health (241 active), zero in Northern Health (32 active), three in Island Health (22 active) and no new cases in people who reside outside Canada, though eight of those cases remain active.

There are currently 50 people in hospital with 12 of those patients in critical care units.

No further deaths occurred in the past 24 hours.

B.C.'s vaccination rate has reached 80 per cent for first doses of everyone age 12 and older. For two doses, the rate has increased to 54.4 per cent in the same age range for those who have received both doses.
