Kamloops Fire Rescue performed a demonstration on Thursday afternoon in the Dufferin Wetlands as they showcased enhanced wildfire protection capabilities.
The four new Firebozz sprinklers were set up around the north side of the pond, a short distance from neighbouring homes and Dufferin elementary.
The system can be set up in 20 minutes with a small crew of firefighters and can be left to operate with one or two operators.
The system was run from one hydrant in this scenario, producing protection for between 800 and 10,000 feet. It can also operate with two sprinklers for multiple locations.
Had it been available, the system could have been used in scenarios such as last year’s East Shuswap Road and Batchelor Hill wildfires.
