A public budget meeting will be held on Wednesday ay 7 p.m. at the Sports Centre Lounge at McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre in North Kamloops.
The event will include a presentation by the city, which will be streamed live online via the city’s Facebook page for those who cannot attend.
Mayor Ken Christian reminded residents on Tuesday during budget talks that the public meeting will not be a time to discuss supplemental budget items. That portion of budget talks will come in the new year.
However, Christian said the city would like to hear from residents with ideas on how to save money. The provisional budget increase is slated at 3.4 per cent. Add in an anticipated utility rate increase and taxpayers are looking at a four per cent tax hike next year, due to provincial rate increases and taxes, the addition of three RCMP officers and increased services, such as improved snow removal. The city also invites residents to engage online via its Let’s Talk page. Go online to letstalk.kamloops.ca/budget.
The final tax rate will be set at the end of the first quarter in 2019.
