Kamloops Mounties arrest burglary suspect, find stolen firearm

Police were responding to a New Year's Day break and enter at the Aberdeen Canadian Tire store.

A heavy police presence at the Canadian Tire store in Aberdeen on New Year’s Day was due to a burglary in which it was reported a firearm may have been stolen.

Kamloops RCMP Const. Crystal Evelyn said Mounties responded to the call at about 1 p.m. to the store at Hillside Drive and Pacific Way.

“As frontline officers responded, updates provided them with a suspect description and information that a firearm may have been stolen, increasing police presence to the area and heightening an ongoing risk assessment,” Evelyn said.

While officers were on the way to Canadian Tire, Evelyn said, a Mountie saw a man matching the suspect's description near Notre Dame Drive. Evelyn said the man fled as police approached, but was soon arrested.

At the store, officers used a police dog to clear the building and a stolen firearm was found in the parking lot.

Daniel McClintock, 33, of Kamloops remains in custody and faces one count each of break and entering and stealing a firearm, breach of probation, possessing a firearm while prohibited and mischief. His next court date is Jan. 11.
