Kamloops Mounties converge in Southgate as they track robbery suspect

The suspect in a reported armed robbery of a business near Aberdeen Mall on April 19 was seen running through a parking lot near Notre Dame and Laval at about 1 p.m.

UPDATE: Kamloops RCMP say a suspect is now in custody as a result of the armed robbery investigation. More information will follow later.

Kamloops Mounties are out in force in the Southgate area on Monday afternoon (April 19) following a reported armed robbery at a business near Aberdeen Mall.

Const. Crystal Evelyn said police responded to the reported robbery at 12:45 p.m. and were in the area of Notre Dame Drive and Laval Crescent — in the Southgate commercial area, across from the Smith Chevrolet Cadillac dealership and right next to the School District 73 maintenance yard — searching for the suspect as of 1:30 p.m.

The suspect, who was last seen running through a parking lot in that area, is white, stands about 6-foot-1, has dark hair and a thin build. He has a tattoo of a crown on his face, under his eye. He was last seen wearing a red ball cap, a grey hoodie and jeans, but is believed to have ditched his hat and changed into a white hoodie.

At last report, officers and a police dog service unit, were in the area. Mounties are asking the public to avoid areas where they see a large police presence.
