Staff Sgt. Sascha Fesenko said a Mountie saw a stolen vehicle on the frontage road near McDonald’s at about noon. Once police attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver accelerated and struck a police vehicle before racing off eastwards at a high rate of speed.
Fesenko said there were no injuries and the police cruiser sustained minor damage. The stolen vehicle was later found abandoned in Barnhartvale.
While police were trying to stop the first stolen vehicle, an officer saw a second known stolen vehicle in the area. The driver stopped, jumped out and ran away. Despite the use of police tracking dogs, the suspect escaped.
Police are asking witnesses, including those may have dash-cam footage, to call the detachment at 250-828-3000.
