Three men on the lam from a substance-use treatment centre in Logan Lake were arrested on Friday morning in Kamloops, on Overlander Beach below Overlanders Bridge.
Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Matias Van Laer said police were informed at 10 a.m. that the trio had left the Vision Quest Recovery Society in Logan Lake without permission from their probation officers. They reportedly rented a room in a motel on Columbia Street, Van Laer said, but when police arrived, they escaped through a window and left in a waiting taxicab.
Van Laer said the cab company told police the men were dropped off on Kitchener Crescent, at the north end of Overlanders Bridge, near the Henry Grube Education Centre and where access to the beach is located.
Two of the men were arrested, followed by the third suspect in the afternoon after a brief foot chase that led to a tracking dog being called out and Tranquille Road to be closed for a short time on two occasions.
Two of the men arrested are in their early 20s and from Fort St. John, while the third man apprehended is in his 30s and from Surrey.
Crown counsel is reviewing charges.
