Kamloops under severe thunderstorm watch

Environment Canada is warning that the storms could dump heavy rains on the area, with upwards of 15 millimetres of rain possible over a short period of time on the afternoon of June 27.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Kamloops and the South Thompson region, with Environment Canada warning that the storms could dump heavy rains on the area, with upwards of 15 millimetres of rain possible over a short period of time on Saturday afternoon.

The weather agency said the heavy downpours can cause localized flooding, especially near sloping terrain, flash floods and water pooling on roads.

The severe thunderstorm watch follows a special weather statement issued earlier on Saturday, noting an unstable air mass will be created as a result of an upper low pressure system moving in from the north.
