Interior Health is launching mobile immunization clinics in urban areas across the region, including in Kamloops.
The health authority says its mobile clinics have been successful in rural areas and now it will target certain urban neighbourhoods in Kelowna, West Kelowna, Kamloops, Vernon, Penticton and Salmon Arm.
The clinics will provide same-day first doses to anyone age 12 and older who still needs to be vaccinated.
Data from the BC Centre for Disease Control shows a dose-one vaccination rate among adults of 78 per cent for the South Kamloops region and a 72 per cent rate for North Kamloops. The surrounding Lower Thompson area has a rate of 70 per cent.
For those ages 50 and older, who have been eligible to receive a vaccine for much longer, the rate is higher, with the rate for Kamloops South at 87 per cent and 83 per cent for Kamloops North.
Although specific dates have not been announced for Kamloops, Interior Health said people can look for updates on the health authority's mobile immunization clinic schedule website.
For anyone looking to get vaccinated, registration is available online at getvaccinated.gov.bc.ca.
