Motel resident says shots were fired in building

Kamloops Mounties have Columbia Street West in Lower Sahali blocked in the 500-block, with traffic being diverted up the frontage road on the east side of Columbia.

A resident of a motel on which police are focusing told KTW there was a shooting in the building on Friday morning (Oct. 16).

The woman said she was taken out of the Hospitality Inn, at 500 Columbia St. W., by police, but added her children — ages nine and four — remained in the motel until police were able to take them out later in the morning. She lives a few doors down from where shots were apparently fired.

An emergency response team has set up across from the Hospitality Inn as officers in at least 12 vehicles surround the motel.

"We are asking citizens to avoid this area for the time being as there may be a risk to the public and there will be a heavy police presence, including road closures,” Sgt. Brandon Buliziuk said in an earlier media release.
