Mounties are trying to determine if there are more victims or witnesses, after a man reportedly sexually assaulted a female driver after convincing her to give him a lift.
On Sunday morning (Jan. 10), a woman reported to police that she had been sitting in her parked vehicle at Riverside Park downtown when a stranger approached her, saying he was injured and in need of a ride.
She said during the drive, the man sexually assaulted her.
Officers attended the area, where the woman had dropped off the suspect, and arrested a man.
Cody Joseph, 24, of no fixed address in Kamloops, now faces one count of sexual assault. He remains in custody and will make his next court appearance on Jan. 18.
“Although police cannot go into specifics at this time due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, it is believed there may be more victims and witnesses who have yet to come forward,” RCMP spokesperson, Const. Crystal Evelyn, said in a press release. “We urge any witnesses or victims to please contact Kamloops RCMP.”
Police have released a photo of Joseph to encourage any other potential victims and/or witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information should contact Kamloops RCMP, by calling 250-828-3000.
