Number of thefts from vehicles hit 10-week high in Kamloops last week

The number of thefts from vehicles around Kamloops spiked last week, with a total of 68 such incidents across the city from Sept. 2 to Sept. 8.

The Kamloops RCMP’s weekly report to media on thefts from vehicles includes maps that show where thefts occurred.

Thefts not appearing on the map include five in rural areas and one at Sun Peaks.

On average, 49 thefts from vehicles are reported each week to Kamloops RCMP.

“These maps are not just a reminder to motorists to lock their vehicles, but also to all citizens, to remind them that if they see suspicious behaviour in their neighbourhood, to call the police,” Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said, when announcing the mapping project.

Mounties have been reporting theft from vehicle statistics to media since July.
