One person was taken into custody on Wednesday morning (May 12) as part of a police investigation on which Mounties remain tight lipped.
The Kamloops RCMP targeted enforcement unit and the RCMP’s Southeast District emergency response team — the RCMP’s version of a SWAT team — converged on a North Kamloops home in the 400-block of Hilltop Avenue at about 10:15 a.m., arresting a man in the process.
The police operation was apparently short-lived as ERT cleared the scene before 11 a.m., at which time KTW observed only a couple of police officers outside the home.
RCMP Const. Crystal Evelyn said the investigation is ongoing.
During the police operation with the ERT, police asked residents to avoid the area, but said there was no risk to the public.
A photo from the scene posted on social media showed police had guns drawn on the home.
Evelyn would not say if the investigation is related to the local drug trade, whether the man was arrested without incident, if he is known to police or if any investigators remained at the scene late into Wednesday afternoon.
She said that at this time police are not releasing further information to protect the integrity of the investigation.
