On board the bus were four children, a teaching assistant and the bus driver. None of the children were reported injured, while the bus driver and teaching assistant were checked out at Royal Inland Hospital.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Edward Preto said the bus was stopped at a red light when it was rear-ended by a one-tonne pickup truck.

“The male driver of the pickup truck stated he was distracted when he looked down to pick up his coffee cup,” Preto said.

The pickup truck sustained significant damage to its front end and the driver was issued a violation ticket for following too closely.

Kamloops-Thompson school district staff have contacted the parents of the children to advise them of the incident.
