Police chase shoplifter in Lower Sahali

Kamloops RCMP pursued an alleged shoplifter in Lower Sahali after a shop detective was threatened with a weapon on Friday afternoon.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., a store detective attempted to retrieve stolen merchandise from a man who then made threats with a weapon.

Police arrived in the area near West Columbia Street and located a man matching the description they had been given, but the man ran and officers gave chase.

The man, who is known to police, was later located in the backyard of a nearby residence and arrested for theft, assault with a weapon and resisting arrest.

Charges are pending and the man will appear before a judge on Saturday.
