B.C.’s independent police watchdog is investigating the Kamloops RCMP detachment’s actions in an arrest last week lthat sent a woman to hospital with serious injuries.
On Oct. 14, police were called to a building in the 1800-block of Greenfield Avenue in Brocklehurst for a report of a woman making threats, according to a news release issued on Friday (Oct. 23) by B.C. RCMP’s headquarters in Surrey.
“When officers arrived and located the women, she was allegedly in possession of a weapon,” the release states. “In an officer’s attempt to disarm the woman, she was injured. The woman was arrested, but subsequently apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.”
According to the release, Mounties were informed on Oct. 22 that the woman’s injuries were considered serious. B.C.’s Independent Investigations Office was notified and launched an investigation.
