A staff member at The Hamlets at Westsyde has tested positive for COVID-19, leading to cancellation of all visits from the outside and between the assisted-living and long-term care areas of the facility at Westsyde Road and Overlander Drive.
The positive COVID-19 test is believed to be the first involving an assisted-living facility or long-term care home in Kamloops.
In a Nov. 14 letter to families of residents at The Hamlets — obtained by KTW — general manager Bob Attfield said an Interior Health medical health officer has confirmed the positive COVID-19 test in a Hamlets employee who works in the long-term care area of the facility.
“The Hamlets at Westsyde has been preparing for this situation since the very early days of Covid-19, please rest assured that all of our team is working around the clock to protect your loved one,” Attfield said in the letter. “We completely understand that you have many questions, comments and concerns. Should the MHL (medical health officer) declare an outbreak we will be calling everyone whose loved one has potentially been exposed.”
There has been no reports of COVID-19 among the residents of The Hamlets.
KTW has contacted Interior Health for more information and is awaiting a call back.
