Province reports 617 new cases of COVID-19, just 17 in Interior Health region

The province has reported 617 new cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours.

Just 17 of those cases, however, were reported in the Interior Health region, marking the lowest daily new case count in the region in months.

The bulk of the new cases — 372 — occurred in the Fraser Health region. Elsewhere, there were 146 new cases in Vancouver Coastal Health, 19 in Vancouver Island Health, 92 in Northern Health and one new case in a person who normally resides outside Canada.

The province now has 4,348 active cases, with 224 in hospital and 60 of those patients in critical care.

Four further deaths were also reported on Thursday, bringing the province's death toll to 1,321.

Of the province's total 75,327 cases, 69,602 have recovered to date.

Another 7,440 people are under active public health monitoring due to exposure to confirmed cases.

On the vaccine front, 180,691 doses of either the Pfizer of Moderna vaccines have been administered in B.C. Of those, 29,952 are the second of the two required doses.
