Public told to avoid 500-block of Columbia Street West after reports of shots fired

Mounties are investigating and road closures are in effect.

Kamloops Mounties are probing a report of shots fired in the 500-block of Columbia Street West on Friday morning (Oct. 16) and warning the public to stay away from the area.

"We are asking citizens to avoid this area for the time being as there may be a risk to the public and there will be a heavy police presence, including road closures,” Sgt. Brandon Buliziuk said.

There is a large police presence near the Hospitality Inn motel, at 500 Columbia St. W.

The situation remained fluid as of 8:15 a.m.
