Robbery at Kamloops gas station leads to quick arrest

Suspect nabbed shortly after Husky gas station/store was held up on Saturday night

A man is in custody after the Husky gas station in Sahali was robbed at knifepoint on Saturday night.

The 8:40 p.m. holdup yielded the robber cash and cigarettes — but the suspect didn’t even have time to put lighter to smoke before being arrested by responding Mounties.

Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Sascha Fesenko said police officers flooded the area around the gas station, which is located at Columbia Street and McGill Avenue. Shortly after the robbery, officers found a man in the area of Grandview Terrace who matched the description of the suspect.

“When stopped by the police, the male attempted to flee and was subsequently arrested,” Fesenko said. “A search of the backpack he was carrying revealed a quantity of cash and cigarettes.”

The suspect, who is known to police, is scheduled to appear before a justice of the peace on Sunday.
