Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for Kamloops and area

Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain

A severe thunderstorm watch remain in effect for Kamloops and the South Thompson region as of Wednesday afternoon.

Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Thunderstorms are expected to develop and intensify in the afternoon.

The severe thunderstorm watch has also been issued for the Coquihalla Highway and Fraser Canyon.

On Monday, Environment Canada was surprised by a sudden and intense storm on the Coquihalla that brought hail and icy conditions to an area between Kamloops and Merritt. The storm led to a multi-vehicle accident near the Lac Le Jeune exit that sent eight people to hospital.
