Standoff in Kamloops ends with man being assessed by medical officials

A Kamloops man is being assessed by medical officials following an hours-long standoff on the North Shore that ended on Tuesday morning.

Police were notified about a 43-year-old man phoning a crisis line at about 9:30 p.m. on Monday threatening violence to himself and officers if they showed up at his North Kamloops home, Mounties say.

RCMP surrounded the home and a negotiator made contact with the man, but he refused to leave the residence. Neighbours in the area were asked to stay inside while the standoff carried on.

The RCMP's emergency response team eventually arrived and the man was arrested at 3:45 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
