Storms closes doors on its iconic riverside restaurant

Whether the eatery re-opens at another location remains to be seen

UPDATE: About 40 minutes after this story was posted, Storms stated on its Facebook page that the restaurant is closed at 1502 River St. due to circumstances beyond the owners' control. The owners are searching for a new location in which to re-open and said gift certificates with the anchor logo will be honored once the eatery re-opens.

An iconic Kamloops restaurant has closed, but it remains to be seen if it will re-open in a different location.

Storms On The River, which had been operating for years along the South Thompson River, at 1502 River St, east of downtown, closed within the last couple of weeks, with the owners selling various restaurant items on the Facebook Marketplace page.

The restaurant’s phone number is out of service and, just this week, its website disappeared.

Messages from KTW to owner and executive chef Heather Morgan were not returned, but Kamloops This Week has been in contact for the past week with the restaurant’s general manager, who said the closure is a “developing situation.”

Alex Lange said the restaurant plans to post an official announcement on social media in the near future.

“What I can say is that it is important for us to emphasize we are not going out of business, but are unable to continue operations at the River Street location due to reasons beyond our control,” Lange said in an email.

Lange did not answer questions regarding the reason for the closure and the fate of outstanding Storms gift certificates, the latter of which has been a topic of discussion on some online social media sites.
