Building statistics in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District through three quarters of the year show a decline over last year.
This September was a slower month than September 2018, with 39 permits worth $7.1 million issued, compared to 63 permits worth $9.8 million handed out during the same month last year. Overall this year, permits are down 10 per cent, to 322 from 360, and values are down eight per cent, to $64.1 million from $69.8 million.
TNRD development services director Regina Sadilkova doesn’t put too much stock in the numbers, however, calling 2018 — a record-breaking year with large projects — “extraordinarily busy.”
Permits expected to hit the books before the end of the year include seven applications for single-family dwellings in Tobiano, in addition to foundation permits for construction of 20 residential units in Clearwater.
