Tourism Kamloops’ Visitor Centre is closing to the public as the organization shifts toward a new volunteer-based street team that will meet tourists in the community.
In a press release, Tourism Kamloops said a new Bold Street Team launched Thursday, one that replaces the brick and mortar Visitor Centre across from Aberdeen mall that has traditionally served tourists.
A branded Jeep and trailer will now be stationed at popular locations and events. Tourism Kamloops staff will remain in the building for administrative purposes. In addition, access will remain for the sani-station, dog run, picnic tables, community garden and electric charging stations.
The team will also be working with the Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association’s CAP Team and Kamloops Mounted Patrol to provide year-round ambassadorship.
Tourism Kamloops said the new team will constantly be recruiting volunteers in the community.
“We want visitors to meet locals and connect with our community,” the press release states.
KTW reached out to Tourism Kamloops for comment and has not yet heard back.
