Trio of suspected human-caused wildfires in Kamloops Fire Centre on Easter long weekend

The provincial government and provincial health officer had urged people not to travel during the Easter long weekend as the COVID-19 pandemic continues

The Easter long weekend has been busy for the BC Wildfire Service, with three suspected human-caused blazes burning in the massive Kamloops Fire Centre.

The largest of the trio is the 20-hectare Lauder Road fire 8.5 kilometres east of Highway 5A near Merritt. As of Sunday at 6 p.m., there was a response officer on site, with three additional personnel and a helicopter en route for support.

A 10-hectare fire is also burning 17 kilometres north of Lytton, where six crew members are building a handguard along the southern flank of the fire.

The third fire is a three-hectare blaze about four kilometres south of Cawston. The Barcelo Road fire is on the west side of the Similkameen River and has a response officer and three personnel working the flames..
