West Columbia Street police response due to domestic violence complaint, RCMP say

A report of a potentially armed man assaulting his romantic partner brought a heavy police presence to a West Columbia Street motel on Wednesday morning, causing a nearby elementary school to put students in hold and secure.

Kamloops Mounties were called to a suite at Panorama Inn & Suites just after 8:30 a.m. for a report of domestic violence, possibly involving a weapon.

“As a result, a heavy police presence was observed in the area briefly while we addressed the situation,” RCMP Sgt. Darren Michels said in a news release.

A 32-year-old man was arrested without incident, Michels said.

On Oct. 16, Beattie students were placed on hold and secure after a shooting at nearby Hospitality Inn sent one person to hospital with minor injuries.
