Westsyde attic fire pushes residents out

A fire broke out in an attic just before 4 a.m. Saturday morning at a house in Westsyde.

Kamloops Fire Rescue crews were called to smoke in the neighbourhood around McCurrach road, where an engine quickly spotted flames coming out of a window at 762 McCurrach Rd., just off Jensen Road.

Initial reports said social services would be required for six people.

Platoon Capt. Troy Grant told KTW the fire was mostly contained to the attic of the home, but its residents will likely be forced out.

"I don't believe anybody will be occupying that house. They had to pull ceilings and use water inside the house, so," Grant said.

Grant said there were no reports of injuries and the living areas of the house only saw light smoke from the fire.

More than a dozen firefighters and auxiliaries attended the fire.

A KFR inspector was on scene Saturday morning. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
